Last summer, I started seeing a girl shortly before my traditional week long ‘vaca’ in Wildwood. I invited her to join–she accepted–and I gave her a tour of the great town (she had never been there!?!).  Later that week on the beach, we saw an airplane fly by with an advertisement for a haunted dinner theater. Intrigued, and thinking it would be a nice / interesting night out, I called immediately from the beach and placed a reservation with what turned out to be Elaine’s Haunted Mansion Restaurant in Cape May. We arrived, and then things got fun, quirky and delicious all at once! …

The quaint Victorian Inn made for a wonderful atmosphere. We were immediately escorted into a terrifically decorated dining room–complete with moving pictures, flickering candles, a memorably huge moose and all sorts of other interesting pieces. The eerily lit room was filled with laughs and life when several live actors entered, entertaining everyone with fun stories, jokes and quirky comments about the room and life in general. The entire cast of characters were lighthearted and fun.

The food was just as exceptional as the entertainment. We had four courses, all of our choosing, from a decent number of options–all of which were delicious.   Service was quick, friendly and complimented the atmosphere without getting in the way or taking away from the experience. In fact, the help seemed to partake in the atmosphere by making jokes and filling the role of a ‘haunted dinner theater’ type of character…for lack of better description!

I cannot recall any other dining experience quite as interesting and unique as Elaine’s Haunted Mansion Restaurant. I fully recommend shelling out the cash (it is a little $) ; You will be pleased when you get your money’s worth in delicious dining and unique experience. Heck, as a testament, I’m still talking about it a year later.

Take a ghost tour right after your meal (offered by Elaine’s) or simply stroll around in Cape May =  a nicely packaged evening!
