The Best Slice 2010

1.) Franconi’s Pizza

A few summers ago when Franconi’s first opened up in Central Wildwood, I grabbed a slice nearly every day for lunch. After a couple years of Franconi’s hiatus, I forgot how well they have the art of pizza making mastered. From the sauce, cheese, and crust to the hot temperature of the slice, we all agreed they did it right. Franconi’s has brought some serious credentials to Central Wildwood pizza—where pizza ratings have struggled the past several years!

2.) 3 Brothers Pizza

3 Brother's Pizza

In second place, representing North Wildwood at 23rd Avenue, is 3 Brothers Pizza. You’ll be pleased when you get your slice. Ours was picture perfect with just the right ratio of sauce, cheese and crust. A small hint of garlic of made the crust taste mildly like a piece of garlic bread or breadstick (much to my appreciation!). We also noted that the customer service was quick and friendly. As an added benefit, they perform a free pizza tossing show every night which is actually pretty neat…and makes for some fun, free boardwalk entertainment!

3.) Duva’s Italian Grill

Duva's Italian Pizza

Whoa! Talk about a jumbo slice! This will *guaranteed* be your first reaction. Self proclaimed as the “biggest slice on the boardwalk,” Duva’s will make you think about maybe not indulging in that usual second slice or maybe even splitting a slice with someone else (cheap date idea, right?!). But being the largest slice on the boardwalk isn’t just a gimmick—the slice actually tastes pretty good too. We were very impressed with this new pizza tour stop (just opened in June, 2010) and very pleased with the great flavor of the combined ingredients. Welcome to Wildwood, Duva’s!

Best Slice on the Boardwalk for only $2.00? I can deal with that!

2.)    Little Nickys – $1.95 – 3.2 out of 5 – PPR: 1.64

Always a great slice at good price in North Wildwood!

20

3.)    Santino’s – $1.00 – 1.6 out of 5 – PPR: 1.60

As the champion of 2009 Pizza Tour, this $1.00 slice is worth every penny!

4.)    3 Brothers – $2.50 – 4.0 out of 5 – PPR: 1.60

Despite being above the average Wildwood price slice, the taste makes it worth every penny!

Not the Best Slice

20

1. Snow White

Snow White Pizza

20

Snow White has a large variety of items but their pizza needs some improvements. The thin ‘frozen pizza-esque’ slice is comparable to a thin slice of Ellio’s pizza from the supermarket. One comment mentioned the sauce tasted more like spaghetti sauce than pizza sauce. We appreciate the friendly and attentive service, but unfortunately Lincoln Avenue still leaves much to be desired…at least in pizza. Overall Rating: .20 out of 5

2. Beach Burger

Beach Burger

20

So you just saw a movie at the Strand and want to grab something to eat. “I’ll go to McDonald’s,” you think to yourself… Surprise! No more McDonald’s. It’s now Beach Burger. For 97 cents it seems like a steal. Unfortunately, it’s not worth the spare change. The ingredients simply did not taste good and it took some time to get service. You should probably save your cash and put it towards a better slice some place else. Overall Rating:  .40 out of 5

20

3. Angelo’s

Angelo's Pizza

20

Angelo’s pizza, not to be confused with Little Angelo’s, is located right in the heart of Wildwood. Service was a little slow but the most negative part of the experience was the clumpy cheese. It was less than desirable and a real killer in terms of ratings. When you’re getting off the Ferris Wheel, avoid the pizza temptation and head north or south before making your pizza stop. Overall Rating: .50 out of 5

Conclusion

20

One item to recognize is that places are liable to have good nights and bad nights. I feel like some of the places gave us slices that were not as good as they might usually be. On the flipside, it’s possible that we just so happened to get the best slice of pizza a place may ever make. That’s part of the sporadic nature and fun of doing these pizza ratings. As always, keep in mind, these ratings are for fun and strictly a matter of opinion. We may love it and you could dislike it or vice verca. In any case, I think we can all agree on our enjoyment of Wildwood, NJ…or at least pizza in general! Thanks for checking out Wildwood Pizza Tour 2010! Please leave a comment and check out the rest of the site! Special thanks to Wildwood and all its pizza places! Till next year…

Everyone is so into Mack's and Sam's. Are you kidding. They are both way over rated. Mack's may have been good back in the day. Today it is very greasy and the entire place just seems dirty. Always amazed me how these boardwalk places handle money, wipe sweat off their face, blow their nose, pick up trash and then handle your pizza. That in itself is hard to stomach. Sams pizza is no thrill as well. Rude staff and dried out pizza. I want a fresh slice of pizza not one sitting out for hours and thrown in an oven. They would argue their pizza does not sit out for an hour due to high volume. Well then what is the excuse for your dried out day old pizza? Comparable to a low grade frozen pizza or pizza kit. Macks and Sams are just rolling out quantity. Not quality. If there was a Papa Johns on the boards they would win hands down. I am just missing the whole boardwalk pizza thing.

I always used to like Mack's, and I love Mack and Manco's in Ocean City, but the last time my wife and I went there we got slices and they were awful. Like they had been sitting out all day. Since then we've been partial to Sam's. Have to try Franconi's sometime though, based on this article!

The best pizza was 3J's pizza, Garfield and bdwk. They left the boardwalk and now run the bowling center "3J's wildwood bowl". Still the best pizza in Wildwood!
