Biography

Biography:
Sam’s Pizza Palace, family owned and operated since 1957, is one of Wildwood's most famous pizzerias and a favorite among locals and summer visitors. Located on the south side of 26th and the Boardwalk, Sam's serves up a simple menu of pizza (including plain, pepperoni and white broccoli) as well as birch beer with crushed ice.

Sam Sperra and his wife immigrated to Trenton, NJ in 1951 where Sam opened a “Lunch Truck” serving sandwiches as well as homemade soups. After a visit to Wildwood, Sam decided to open a steak sandwich shop on the Wildwood boardwalk at 24th Street. Before long, Sam purchased a small pizza oven and started selling pizzas to hungry boardwalk walkers. Sam's was soon so popular that he moved into a larger restaurant (where it is still located today) and focused on pizza-making. The rest is history.

Sam's is the best on the boardwalk and for me, it wasn't too hard to decide on that. There's decent pizza all over the boards but Sam's wins on consistency factor... perfect crispiness and delicious sweet sauce every time. That's the most impressive thing about it - you can expect the same quality every time you go there. Service can be "meh" due to crowds and the price continues to rise but as far as taste goes, it has yet to be beat. Do yourself a favor and get a whole pie to eat in instead of a slice. And Mack's? I actually think it's pretty good, but I'd never take it over Sam's.

I love this place. The best pizza on the boardwalk, maybe the best pizza anywhere. The simple joy of being in Wildwood on the boardwalk certainly adds to the experience.

Dry, cardboard texture of crust. Generic, canned tasting sauce. Light on cheese. I had heard so much about how this was the best on the boardwalk. I couldn’t even finish my slice. Basically inedible.

Terrible Pizza!

Great pizza. The sauce and cheese ratio is on point. The crust is very tasteful..

If you don't like it, you're a jealous hater. It's easily the best and the long lines (even in the dead of winter) prove that.
