The Best Wildwood Slice 2018

1.) Mack's Pizza - Avg: 4.2

Mack's Pizza

The process of eating at 25 pizzerias in 1 night is an interesting one. Generally, you remember the best, the worst and the unexpected.

For whatever reason, Mack’s Pizza somehow flew under our mental radar. Maybe it’s because they’re always a top contender? Maybe it’s because they’re in the middle of the boardwalk? Maybe our brains were still recovering from all the pizza? In the Pizza Tour 2018 video, you can see our jaws actually drop when Mack’s is revealed as the top rated slice. But it shouldn’t be a surprise. Not at all!

Mack’s is consistently a great slice in our rankings — in 12 years of conducting the Wildwood Pizza Tour, this is Mack's 3rd Best Slice victory and the 10th time they have ranked in our top-5.

What works so well for this slice? The thin and crispy crust, the cheddar-driven Mack’s cheese-blend, and the tangy sauce combine forces to create a flavorful, juicy and all-around satisfying slice. It’s a flavor you don’t forget and instantly remember with refreshed happiness every time you have it thereafter...A unique and specific blend of ingredients that is so distinctly Mack’s and, therefore, so distinctly Jersey shore.

There is no question that Mack's is a popular slice among many folks on the Wildwood boardwalk...but the Wildwood Pizza Tour isn't a popularity contest. We pride ourselves on giving every slice an honest chance...And this year, Mack's proved to us why they have been around for more than 60 years.

2.) Joe's Pizzeria - Avg: 4.2

Joe's Pizzeria

Joes Pizzeria has consistently proven that they’re serious about making great pizza. For 4 out of the past 5 years, they’ve ranked in our top 5.

...and this year was the best yet.

Our slice from Joe’s Pizzeria really hit all of the high marks. The flavorful blend of cheese, sauce and spices reminds you why you love pizza in the first place; It’s such a simple food but, when well-executed, will compete with any other food in the world for sheer deliciousness.

You may notice that Joe’s has the same rating as Mack’s, at 4.2 out of 5 stars. Yes, they tied Mack’s for Best Slice on rating. We had to defer to a rule we created when the Pizza Tour began in 2005: In the event of a tie, the cheaper slice wins. This is the first time this rule has made the difference in the Best Slice victory, and we want to give a shout-out to Joe’s: Keep up the good work, Joe’s!

Try this slice! You will thank yourself!

Most Controversial Slice

Fisher's - Reviewer Rating Range: 3.0

1. Fisher's

One of the biggest surprises of the past couple years is just how much some of the Pizza Tour reviewers like Fisher’s. Fisher’s is a place that can be accidentally overlooked in the Wildwood pizza scene but it might be a slice worth trying.

Why is the Fisher’s slice most controversial? One reviewer gave the slice a glowing review of 4.5 out of 5 stars, while another gave a low rating of just 1.5. The spread is a 3 point difference! Overall, the slice received a 3.5 out of 5 rating and, if you’re in the neighborhood of 24th Avenue, you might want to grab a slice. It might just be one of your favorites
